School Council Youth Forum Presentation June 2024

School Council Youth Forum Final Presentation

On Wednesday 26th June we arrived at Watersmeet Theatre in Rickmansworth ready to share the year-long project we have been working on at Christ Church School and learn about sustainability in Three Rivers. There were lots of other local school council members there, and we had to draw faces about how we felt about the environment and sustainability. Many drew annoyed, sad and angry faces.

We then listened to a presentation by  Rilla Patterson about how she's used songs and performing to share the word with children about saving the planet since the 1990s.  https://childofthefuture.com/ All of us can help with small things as they all add up to make a difference. Increasing our recycling and repairing things when they are broken.

Sustainability

Three Rivers District Councillors then spoke about the foods we eat and which countries they come from. They wanted us to think about buying foods that are closer to the UK. For example, we can buy apples grown in the UK and not from New Zealand! They also taught us to look at labels carefully to find out what we are eating. Did you know that per 100 grams, Polos are 96% sugar and Haribos are only 45%.

We listened to each school’s presentation and what they've done to be more sustainable. Everyone presented really well and it was very inspiring. We came away with lots of ideas about how we can improve our school too. Our School Council Leader, Mrs Booth, said that we presented with confidence and clarity. We have definitely achieved a lot in a few months and loved every minute of being School Council members.
